The monsoon season is officially over all across India and wall dampness and leakages are a common sight in many households. While most of us enjoy rains with a hot cup of chai and pakoras while watching the pitter-patter of the rain through the windows, it can spell disaster if your home walls are not waterproofed to begin with. This kind of leakage or seepage would scare anyone and prevention is always better than cure.

Over the years a lot of people have realized that water has an ability to seep into external home walls, and the first signs of this can be noticed only when it is too late, causing wall dampness and leakages.

Most homeowners are very tired of listening to unwanted ‘gyaan’ from cheap contractors or even low budget interior companies. They are not sure of why exactly seepage or leakage happens.

Here are some scientific facts about what actually causes leakage and seepage.

Wall leakage could occur due to the following:

  • Crack in the interior or exterior walls
  • Cracks in the terrace or roof
  • Damaged or loose tiles
  • Growth of plants

Seepage could occur due to the following:

  • Long-term exposure to water
  • Rainwater accumulation
  • Presence of natural underground water
  • Poor waterproofing at the time of construction

Water seepage causes wetness and cracking and flaking of the paint. Apart from that, the extra dampness inside the home has a tendency to invite unnecessary viruses, mould and fungus, posing a threat to not just home occupants but also the aesthetics.

What is the right approach to waterproof?

Home Wall Waterproofing, when once done properly, does not require regular care, lasting anywhere between 5 to 10 years. But it has to be done the right way or else water will seep into your walls. But you might still be thinking, why does water still seep in your walls every monsoon, despite ‘waterproofing’ them just last year?

One of the main reasons is that homeowners and contractors hire cheap labour and products to get waterproofing done. They use methods like chuna, chemical treatments, plaster or a touch of paint that can provide temporary solutions but are not long-lasting. Besides, in most of the cases, local contractors do not have the essential tools and proficiency about waterproofing and end up doling out what we call fake gyaan.

It is important to repair waterproofing problems with effective and lasting wall dampness solutions and roof water damage solutions with a scientific approach. External walls, internal walls, bathroom, kitchen are the main areas you need to look for to make your home waterproofed.

Recently Berger Home Shield has launched a warranty waala waterproofing in the Indian market. This is to give customers the right information so they can tell vigyaan from gyaan. This ad has Akshay Kumar in the never seen before avatar where he is showing the right direction to the customers.
