Our mothers keeps love to taunt us! Especially, when it comes to cleaning the cupboard and organizing our clothes and other accessories. Sometimes we are too busy with work and weekends are all about relaxing and going out. But, then if we don’t clean up now, where will all our new clothes go? We do need space for them and if you are a shopping addict, clean up every two weeks.

But, is the thought of organizing the clothes scaring you already? Don’t worry, here are some tips that helped me transform my wardrobe. You can try them as well:

  1. Make 3 separate piles

Designate three areas of your room for these piles- 1st for the items you want to keep, 2nd for the ones you want to toss an 3rd for things you are not sure about. Keep them away from each other and empty your entire cupboard. Easy?

If you don’t have much space, try using laundry bags to keep them, while you are it.

2. Study each item, objectively

Dig into the 1st pile and examine each piece thoroughly. Here comes the hard part where you have to let go of a few. There are lots of emotions attached to certain clothes. And, trust me, it’s completely normal.

Here are certain questions you can ask yourself before narrowing down the items:

  1. How often do you wear it?
  2. Is it good for the current season?
  3. Does it have any holes or is it ripped?
  4. Does it still fit you?
  5. Has the colour faded?

Now, after coming to a conclusion, look into the 3rd pile and repeat the process. See, if you want to keep any of the items after following the same set of questions.

3. What to do with the discarded items?

You can use them as a waste cloth in the kitchen or to clean the floor. If you have a domestic help, you can also give her daughters. Don’t forget to notice the smile on their face and satisfaction in your heart.

Also, if you are into DIY, you can also make some creative pieces out of the lot.

4. Keep your everyday wear handy

Make sure your office wear and sleepwear section is handy. Keep them in the front section and try to organize them every week. This is the most important section and since we are always short on time in the morning, this process helps a lot.

5. Organize your special clothes in boxes

If you want to keep your party wear and other traditional clothes intact, try to keep them in boxes. You can even keep them wrapped in paper if boxes are too much. This will also give space to your regular clothes and help to declutter.

So, I hope these tips will help you organize your cupboard. Do share photos of before and after with your mom and friends and shock them!
