If you are someone who tends to go by the fashion handbook, print on print is a line that you generally tend not to cross. You have been strictly instructed by the self-proclaimed ‘Fashion Police’ among us, to be very cautious while playing around with print. The trend comes with its own long list of rules. Plaids do not go with checks, horizontal stripes do not go with vertical stripes and the list goes on and on.

I am here to tell you how you no longer need to abide by those rules. After all, was Jeremy Scott thinking rules when he created the paint print, or the McDonald’s logo. The only trick in making your outfits stand out in a crowd is matching colours, not prints. Make sure that the colours you choose to wear clash well.

We are in a state of fashion revolution today, and I say this because fashion is used as means to express. It is used as art and it is used as a political statement. The revolution shows up in the form of a constant state of change. With new trends emerging every season, it is difficult to keep a track. But what could be here to stay is print on print.

As these styles hit the rack, celebrity stylists adorned their clients. Soon enough, celebrities started going out and about in the city getting paparazzi shots clicked. Women as influential as Gigi Hadid and Chiara Ferragni got clicked in the trend. It wasn’t late until the whole world followed. Let me tell you, it isn’t a trend until Blair Waldorf did it first. She did it almost a decade ago, back in 2010 (Season 4) in popular television show Gossip Girl, when she stormed the shops and consumed the classics in Paris, sampling sugary snacks like a modern Marie Antoinette. Who doesn’t have Paris episodes imprinted on their minds anyway?

Popular celebrities like Sonam K. Ahuja and Priyanka Chopra Jonas followed, when it comes to Bollywood.  Kareena Kapoor Khan attended a radio press conference for Ishq Fm in Silvia Tcherassi paired with Le Mill shoes. Her white and mustard polka dotted blouse paired with a striped A-line skirt became the talk of the town.  Her sartorial choices reflect how fashion today knows of no boundaries.

Guess what ladies? You don’t have to be a celebrity to experiment with fashion and look your best self. Aren’t our girlfriends the paparazzi and Instagram our fashion magazine? With the spring setting in, here comes the time to experiment with florals, stripes, ginghams and plaid. If you need help, we come to your aid with a quick guide on how to clash prints.
